The Snuggy Hoods Sweet Itch Body offers Nose-to-tail protection from midges, flies and sunshine (along with mud, dust and dirt!). Comprising of a hood and rug set (also available separately), it comes complete with built in ears, fly-fringe, belly band, tail guard and flap as standard. Lined with a silky "shoulder and mane saver©" to prevent these areas from being rubbed or chaffed.

It's made of breathable, heavy shower proof, lightweight stretch fabric it's fully machine-washable and designed to be worn 24/7, rain or shine. Full instructions and advice are given and offered at any time by e-mail or telephone.

Lynn Russell calls our Sweet Itch Body the "Spik and Span" as she is able to show her cobs straight from the field because their Sweet Itch Bodies keep them "spik and span"! It also prevents the sun bleaching the coat.

Sweet Itch affects about five percent of the UK horse population and as many as sixty percent in South Australia. Although known by different names (summer eczema, Summer Seasonal Recurrent Dermatitis (SSRD) and Queensland Itch for example), the symptoms are the same: severe itching, hair loss, skin thickening and flaky dandruff.

Sweet Itch is caused by an allergic reaction to the bites of the Culicoides midge and, to a lesser extent, Simulium Equinum. At present there is no cure for Sweet Itch. Once an animal develops the allergy it is generally affected every spring, summer and autumn. There are two approaches to improving the comfort of an affected animal: to minimize the allergic reaction with corticosteroids, anti-histamines or soothing lotions or to minimise midge attack using our sweet itch “body”©. The latter offers the most effective protection and avoids the need to use chemicals, repellents, oils or greases.
